Meet Sarah!

Sarah has been Co-owner and Director of United Machinists since 2016 when she and Alex purchased the business from Alex’s parents Doug & Lesley.

In early 2019 she traded in her consultancy stilettos for H&S compliant flats and joined United Machinists full-time to oversee the company’s expansion and business improvement strategies.  

As the 2018 winner of the Westpac Otago Future Business Leader Award, Sarah has a wealth of business and marketing experience to bring to the business. Overseeing strategic planning and performance, business development and finance, Sarah possesses particular industry knowledge in manufacturing, technology, healthcare and commercial property sectors. Throughout her career, she has worked with both established and early-stage companies, as well as running her own consulting and angel investment business which is still in operation - Immersion Ventures. 

Having worked in Sydney and Christchurch, Sarah loves living and working in Dunedin.  Alongside working at United, she extends her expertise, time and oftentimes funds, to others in the community through holding numerous governance positions:

  • Founding Board Member SOREC (Southland Otago Regional Engineering Collective)

  • Founding Board Member MAI (Mainland Angel Investors)

  • Advisory Board Member EduBits, Otago Polytechnic
